Take a peep inside Palazzo Torres, next time you call at St Mark\u2019s Square, and you\u2019ll find that the answer is yes. Because this is a 19th-century palace, but now it contains the new Dolce &amp; Gabbana boutique. Special guests: Bevilacqua\u2019s Italian fabrics for curtains.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.48&#8243; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.87&#8243; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>The history and restoration of Venice\u2019s Palazzo Torres<\/h2>\n<p>Home to a noble family, then hotel and then bank: the use of Palazzo Torres has changed more than once. Its aspect, though, has remained unchanged: its interiors are as splendid as they were in the 19th century. And the architect Eric Carlson, of the Carbondale group, has made sure that this magnificence survives even in the D&amp;G store he\u2019s designed.<\/p>\n<p>How did he do that?<\/p>\n<p>Musing on the project for years and with a 6-months restoration, which revived the mansion\u2019s original marble floors, wooden ceilings, walls and frescoes. And with the help of a <strong>team of Venetian craftspeople<\/strong>, who created the walls\u2019 gilded decorations, provided Murano-glass chandeliers, mosaics made of glass and gold and baroque mirrors.<\/p>\n<p>Be careful, then, if you decide to cross its doorstep: outside it looks like a &#8211; more or less &#8211; innocent luxury boutique, just like the others on Calle Larga XXII Marzo. But inside there\u2019s a whole palace awaiting for you, as well as a piece of Venice\u2019s history and culture.<\/p>\n<p>After all, this was exactly Eric Carlson\u2019s aim:<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_testimonial _builder_version=&#8221;3.2&#8243; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>The creative genesis of Dolce &amp; Gabbana\u2019s boutique began with the desire to create a \u201ccultural destination\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_testimonial][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_image src=&#8221;http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Boutique-DG-Palazzo-Torres-Damask-31089R_02.jpg&#8221; show_in_lightbox=&#8221;on&#8221; use_overlay=&#8221;on&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.87&#8243; animation_style=&#8221;slide&#8221; animation_direction=&#8221;left&#8221; animation_duration=&#8221;500ms&#8221; animation_intensity_slide=&#8221;10%&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; sticky=&#8221;off&#8221; \/][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.48&#8243; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.87&#8243; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>So this isn\u2019t simply a high-fashion store, but a full immersion in Venice\u2019s culture, beauty and craftsmanship. And some of our luxury fabrics for drapes have joined it.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s see which ones.<\/p>\n<h2>The silk velvets and damasks of Dolce &amp; Gabbana\u2019s store in Venice<\/h2>\n<p>The Bevilacqua fabrics used as curtains and on the folding screens of this boutique are 2: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/en\/project\/senatori-velvet\/\">Senatori velvet<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/en\/project\/r-craquele-damask\/\">R Craquel\u00e9 damask<\/a>. Different types of fabrics, but with some features in common: the age their patterns date back to and a connection to Venice.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve already told you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/en\/clothes-of-venetian-senators-in-the-1600s\/\">the story of the Senatori pattern in this article<\/a>. And discovering this velvet\u2019s bond to Venice is easy: the design is the same that decorated the robes of Venetian Senators between the 1500s and 1600s.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Velluto-Senatori-ibisco.jpg&#8221; show_in_lightbox=&#8221;on&#8221; use_overlay=&#8221;on&#8221; align=&#8221;center&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;3.18.9&#8243; max_width=&#8221;500px&#8221; animation_style=&#8221;slide&#8221; animation_direction=&#8221;left&#8221; animation_duration=&#8221;500ms&#8221; animation_intensity_slide=&#8221;10%&#8221; \/][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.87&#8243; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>R Craquel\u00e9 damask<\/strong>, on the other hand, hides some surprises.<\/p>\n<p>First of all, its relationship to Venice: it was already used in another building in the city, Ca\u2019 Vendramin Calergi, seat to the Casino.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, it\u2019s a good example of the <strong>Louis XIV style<\/strong>, with its large intertwining floral and vegetal elements, symmetrically repeated on the whole textile.
