So now you can see the fabrics and looms of our workshop from a new point of view: paper!<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s find out what they drew and their impressions. But first of all, we\u2019ll tell you who they are, with the help of Giancarlo Lamberti, the association\u2019s photographer and organizer of the day.<\/p>\n<h2>What is Matite in Viaggio and what does it do?<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.matiteinviaggio.it\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Matite in Viaggio<\/a> is a cultural association born in 2011, after a visit to the exhibition of the French association <em>il Faut Aller Voir<\/em> in Clermont-Ferrand. The artists who saw it fell in love with its drawings dedicated to travelling at first sight. Then they started wondering if they should open a similar association in Italy, too. And finally they did it: they created a group of <strong>drawing enthusiasts<\/strong> whose aim is communicating their love for travelling through their drawings.<\/p>\n<p>As Giancarlo Lamberti told us, their works are sketches, or watercolours made with rapid strokes. They\u2019re simple, but can <strong>convey the emotion<\/strong> they feel when they discover something new, meet new people and visit unknown places.<\/p>\n<p>Their creations fill a \u201c<strong>travel carnet<\/strong>\u201d, together with some notes on each drawing. These works, those made by the boys and girls the MIV artists meet in schools and those of more than 80 draughtspeople from all over the world gather in October in Mestre (Venice), on an exhibition which takes place every year.<\/p>\n<p>This is the final destination of the drawings made during MIV\u2019s themed trips. Such as <em>Il mondo vestito <\/em>(\u201cThe dressed world\u201d), which took the group to Venice. It was an exhibition dedicated to <em>Travel clothing<\/em>, during which the Atelier displayed two of its dresses, which Dess\u00ec described. Next year we decided to explore this subject further\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>So they decided to draw their journey to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tessitura Bevilacqua<\/strong>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/en\/who-were-the-first-velvet-manufacturers-at-bevilacqua\/\">historical producer of luxury fabrics<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Atelier Pietro Longhi<\/strong>, where clothes from the past come back to life;<\/li>\n<li><strong>La Fenice Theatre<\/strong>, where one of the highest expressions of music, the opera, brings clothes to the stage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But why have they chosen these places?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTessitura Bevilacqua, Atelier Pietro Longhi and La Fenice Theatre are <strong>part of the history of Venice <\/strong>and stand for an ongoing tradition, even if coming from centuries ago\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2>Looms and furnishing fabrics drawings by Matite in Viaggio<\/h2>\n<p>So on May 12th our workshop filled with the steps of 7 artists and a photographer, Mr Lamberti. After exploring the rooms and the tools our weavers use, they chose the subject they wanted to draw.<\/p>\n<p>The result? You can see it on the photos on this page. But if you want to see it with your own eyes, you can do it in Mestre, in the &#8220;Centro Culturale Candiani&#8221;, from October 6th to 22nd, during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.matiteinviaggio.it\/regolamento_2017_eng.php\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Matite in Viaggio &#8211; Carnets disegni parole<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve asked these artists what they drew and felt in our weaving mill: here\u2019s what they told us.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_testimonial author=&#8221;Fabrizia Carraro&#8221; url_new_window=&#8221;off&#8221; quote_icon=&#8221;on&#8221; use_background_color=&#8221;on&#8221; background_color=&#8221;#f5f5f5&#8243; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; text_orientation=&#8221;left&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221;] I was impressed by the materials the Tessitura uses, the rich patterns, the difficulty of weaving and the quality of the products. They\u2019re far beyond our common idea of craft products.<\/p>\n<p>Choosing what to draw was a bit hard, though: so many subjects! Looms, threads, bobbins, gears, levers, stones and strings: I was spoilt for choice, because all these tools are tokens of <strong>the textile manufacturing of the past centuries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The whole workshop oozes historicalness, a magic completely different from modern technology. I confess I felt a bit worried about the weavers, whose work is really complicated, as Anna explained to us. Her explanations were extremely useful, though, and let me understand the uniqueness of what they make.<\/p>\n<p>Deciding what to draw was no piece of cake, after I discovered how many components a loom\u2019s got! [\/et_pb_testimonial][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_testimonial author=&#8221;Giovanni Cocco&#8221; url_new_window=&#8221;off&#8221; quote_icon=&#8221;on&#8221; use_background_color=&#8221;on&#8221; background_color=&#8221;#f5f5f5&#8243; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; text_orientation=&#8221;left&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221;] The complexity of the looms, the punched cards, the number of threads needed for a fabric, the way they arrange to form the pattern and the manual cutting of the fabric to get velvet: these details were all fascinating.<\/p>\n<p>I chose to draw the looms, though, because they\u2019re made of wooden and iron parts which were <strong>produced centuries ago<\/strong>. But they keep on bringing into being excellent fabrics, even now, in the age of electronic technology. The perfection of the handmade fabrics amazed me, as well as the number of bobbins, threads and hand-operated levers.<\/p>\n<p>With so many details I could draw, I decided to picture some coloured fabrics. It seems like they stop time to create an Italian excellence by hand.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what I appreciated above all the rest: the chance to picture a product, fabrics, which has\u2019t changed over time. So I chose to draw some fabrics and their iridescent colours.
