But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/en\/forefather-venetian-velvets\/\">samite<\/a> is now an almost unknown fabric: why? Because <strong>velvet <\/strong>was by far a bigger success. And Venice has the weavers from Lucca to thank for bringing this fabric here, when they fled from their city at the beginning of the 14<sup>th<\/sup> century, due to political reasons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">New fabric means new patterns: and so the designs of Venetian fabrics widened their horizons. Here\u2019s some of them.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image admin_label=&#8221;Image&#8221; src=&#8221;http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/A-griccia-a-cammino-inferriata-patterns.jpg&#8221; show_in_lightbox=&#8221;off&#8221; url_new_window=&#8221;off&#8221; use_overlay=&#8221;off&#8221; animation=&#8221;left&#8221; sticky=&#8221;off&#8221; align=&#8221;left&#8221; force_fullwidth=&#8221;off&#8221; always_center_on_mobile=&#8221;on&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;] [\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221; background_layout=&#8221;light&#8221; text_orientation=&#8221;left&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3>The decorative patterns of the oldest Venetian fabrics<\/h3>\n<p>Soprarizzo, allucciolato, cesellato, laminato, brocaded, voided, garden, pile-on-pile, cut and two-pile velvet: these are the various kinds of a fabric that kept on being loved till the end of the 17<sup>th<\/sup> century. But in the meanwhile, Venice\u2019s weaving mills had started producing other luxury fabrics, too, so the following patterns do not characterize only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/en\/project_category\/handmade-velvets\/\" target=\"_blank\">velvets<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>heraldic <\/strong>motifs: all of the natural, artificial and chimeric figures that one can see on a coat of arms, that is: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/en\/as-fierce-as-lions\/\" target=\"_blank\">living beings<\/a>, stars and natural elements; objects created by mankind; imaginary creatures;<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>a cammino <\/em><\/strong>motifs: born in the 15<sup>th<\/sup> century, they\u2019re characterized by large lobed leaves, set horizontally and with a pomegranate in the middle;<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>a <\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/en\/?post_type=project&#038;p=2433\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>griccia<\/em><\/strong><\/a> motifs: other patterns dating back to the 15<sup>th<\/sup> century, where plants \u2013 as for example thistle and lotus flowers, pomegranates, pine cones and trunks \u2013 alternate, following a wavy vertical line;<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>a zecchini <\/em><\/strong>motifs: <em>zecchino <\/em>was the name given to Venice\u2019s golden ducat, around the middle of the 16<sup>th<\/sup> century, but which spread to other golden coins all over Italy, showing different images according to the city it was minted in;<\/li>\n<li><strong>bizarre <\/strong>motifs: from the chinoiserie which were all the rage in the 18<sup>th<\/sup> century and which echoed Chinese pieces of porcelain, to this pattern made up of fantastic figures and inexplicable weaves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n<span class=\"et_bloom_bottom_trigger\"><\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From samites to the Venetian velvets of the 18th century, here\u2019s some of the most widely used decorative patterns of old weaving mills in Venice<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":5272,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"on","_et_pb_old_content":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I motivi decorativi dei tessuti Bevilacqua sono moltissimi, in stile Liberty, d\u00e9co, barocco, ma anche pi\u00f9 antichi, come il motivo con i leoni rampanti, che proviene addirittura dall\u2019arte sassanide \u2013 dal nome dell\u2019ultima dinastia che ha governato la Persia prima della conquista islamica (640 d.C. circa) \u2013 e che era usato anche sugli sciamiti, i primi tessuti prodotti a Venezia.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Assieme allo sciamito, dall\u2019Oriente Venezia import\u00f2 anche i motivi di questo tessuto, che per\u00f2 si limitavano ad animali simbolici. Oggi, per\u00f2, lo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/antenato-dei-velluti-veneziani\/\" target=\"_blank\">sciamito<\/a> \u00e8 un tessuto quasi sconosciuto: il motivo? Il <strong>velluto <\/strong>ha avuto pi\u00f9 successo. E il merito dell\u2019arrivo a Venezia di questo nuovo tessuto prezioso va soprattutto ai tessitori di Lucca, costretti a fuggire dalla loro citt\u00e0 a inizio Trecento per motivi politici e rifugiatisi a Venezia.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Nuovo tessuto, nuovi motivi: ed \u00e8 cos\u00ec che il panorama dei disegni dei tessuti veneziani si ampia. Eccone alcuni.<\/p><h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">I motivi decorativi dei tessuti veneziani pi\u00f9 antichi<\/h3><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Velluto soprarizzo, allucciolato, cesellato, laminato, broccato, a inferriata, a giardino, alto-basso, tagliato e controtagliato: queste le variet\u00e0 di un tessuto che ha continuato ad essere amato fino a tutto il Seicento. Ma, nel frattempo, le tessiture di Venezia hanno prodotto anche altri tipi di tessuti pregiati, quindi questi motivi non caratterizzano soltanto i <a href=\"http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/project_category\/velluti-a-mano\/\" target=\"_blank\">velluti<\/a>:<\/p><ul><li style=\"text-align: left;\">motivi <strong>araldici<\/strong>: tutte le figure naturali, artificiali e chimeriche che si possono trovare su uno stemma, e quindi: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/feroce-come-i-leoni\/\" target=\"_blank\">esseri viventi<\/a>, astri ed elementi naturali; oggetti creati dall\u2019uomo; creature immaginarie;<\/li><li style=\"text-align: left;\">motivo a <strong>cammino<\/strong>: nato nel Quattrocento, presenta delle grandi foglie lobate, poste in orizzontale e con al centro la melagrana;<\/li><li style=\"text-align: left;\">motivo a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/project\/griccia\/\" target=\"_blank\">griccia<\/a><\/strong>: altro motivo del 15\u00b0 secolo, in cui figure vegetali \u2013 come fiori di cardo e di loto, melagrane, pigne e tronchi \u2013 si alternano, in senso verticale e con andamento ondulato;<\/li><li style=\"text-align: left;\">motivo a <strong>zecchini<\/strong>: \u201czecchino\u201d \u00e8 il nome dato al ducato d\u2019oro di Venezia, a met\u00e0 del 16\u00b0 secolo, ma che si \u00e8 diffuso poi anche ad altre monete d\u2019oro in tutta Italia, coniato con immagini diverse a seconda della citt\u00e0;<\/li><li style=\"text-align: left;\">motivo <strong>bizarre<\/strong>: dalle cineserie di moda nel Settecento e che imitano le porcellane cinesi, nasce questo disegno fatto di figure fantastiche e intrecci
