The Color of the Year is a Pantone project that connects color and culture, creating a dialogue with the community of designers, enthusiasts and professionals who work with color. Emphasizing how much color can represent and convey global culture also means giving voice to a universal language that expresses itself through color and crosses genders, generations and geographies. As will be done with Viva Magenta, the color of the year 2023.<\/p>\n
Viva Magenta was introduced by the Pantone Institute<\/a>\u00a0as “an unconventional shade for an unconventional time.” Full of meanings and emotions, it becomes the symbol of rebirth in this era marked by three years of pandemic, war, economic instability, social unrest and climate change.<\/p>\n Descending from the red family, Viva Magenta embodies life force, vigor, courage, joy and optimism. It is a shade of red that straddles the line between crimson and carmine. It doses red and blue with balance, hot and cold, thus becoming a hybrid color that is as inclusive and multidimensional as the world we live in.<\/p>\n In this powerful and inspiring color, nature is expressed in all its dynamism and exuberance. Humanity is rediscovering the value of connecting with nature, incorporating it into daily life in the form of plants, flowers, and living walls. It also means putting a greater focus on well-being and life energy by seeking better lifestyles based on natural, chemical-free foods and outdoor activities.<\/p>\n The very origins of this color are deeply connected to nature, as it was once produced by certain species of cochineal. These are small insects from which carmine-red and crimson-red pigments were obtained, which were used in the past to dye yarns and fabrics<\/a>.
