This is why we&#8217;re going to tell you what hides behind the symbols you can see on the velvet above.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Peacocks and fountains in Italian fabric patterns<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The order for this silk velvet, cut and uncut, probably came from the Vatican. So it is an ou-and-out church textile. What&#8217;s so churchly about it? Let&#8217;s see:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">it has a yellow pattern in relief on a black field, with three series of pointed <strong>roundels;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">each roundel can contain the papal symbol, a cross covered by a sheet or a crowned escutcheon bearing the motto SERVIRE MARIAE REGNARE EST;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">on top of the roundels, there are two peacocks on either side of a fountain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_465\" style=\"width: 682px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/3509-Stemma1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-465\" class=\" wp-image-465 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/3509-Stemma1.jpg\" alt=\"Velvet 3509 | Papal insignia | Tessitura Bevilacqua\" width=\"672\" height=\"372\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-465\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A detail of the papal insignia<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">But let\u2019s start from the <strong>papal insignia<\/strong>, the symbol of Saint Peter, the first pope, because Saint Peter was entrusted the keys to Heaven, whereas the tiara was the pope\u2019s high hat.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_466\" style=\"width: 682px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/3509-Croce1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-466\" class=\" wp-image-466\" src=\"http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/3509-Croce1.jpg\" alt=\"Velvet 3509 | Cross with sheet | Tessitura Bevilacqua\" width=\"672\" height=\"372\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-466\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A detail of the cross<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The <strong>cross<\/strong> with the sheet, on the other hand, is probably a representation of Christ\u2019s resurrection, whereas the writing on the shield, \u201cto serve Mary is to reign\u201d, is a quote from <a title=\"John of Damascus\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_of_Damascus\" target=\"_blank\">John of Damascus<\/a> (676-749), Doctor of the Church.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_467\" style=\"width: 682px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/3509-Scudo1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-467\" class=\" wp-image-467 \" src=\"http:\/\/www.luigi-bevilacqua.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/3509-Scudo1.jpg\" alt=\"Velvet 3509 | Escutcheon | Tessitura Bevilacqua\" width=\"672\" height=\"372\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-467\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A detail with the escutcheon and the inscription<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Lastly, the two <strong>peacocks<\/strong> and the <strong>fountain<\/strong>: in early Christian catacombs one can easily find two confronted peacocks drinking from the same pot, maybe containing bread and wine, which stand for immortality, since peacock\u2019s meat would not decay. But there\u2019s more: as a heraldic charge, the peacock is symbolic of humility, if its tail is closed and lowered, just like here.
