The exhibition "The Spirit of Tradition, Eigth Centuries of Venetian Velvets of the Tessitura Bevilacqua" will be inaugurated at the Topkapi Museum in Istanbul on November 25th. It will be opened till January 18th, 2012. The event will present the wonderful velvets of the historical archive of the weaving mill Bevilacqua. The same exhibition took place at the Doge's Palace in Venice in 2004.
This year our ancient weaving Luigi Bevilacqua presents a new velvets collection inspired to the golden age of the Serenissima Republic: the XVI century.
Original samples of these four designs are conserved in Bevilacqua’s historical archives. They reflect the influence that the oriental motives had on Venetian art during the utmost period of full splendour: the XVI century.
These four beautiful velvets are realized on jacquard looms that date back to the early 1900using traditional techniques and represent a sign of the tradition transmitted from generation to generation from Bevilacqua family.
They are available in seven colorways: rust, red, ivory, gold, indigo, ancient pink, olive green.
The velvets of the historic Venetian textile factory were given as gifts to the planet's greats on the occasion of the G8.
Venice, 14 July 2009 – The historic Venetian brand Bevilacqua was chosen to decorate the Italian government’s gift with its artistic fabrics to the heads of state who attended the G8 summit held in L'Aquila 8-10 July.
The gift the Italian government presented to the political leaders present at the summit is a masterpiece in the form of a book, symbol of Italian excellence. It is the complete work Antonio Canova. The Invention of Beauty, created by the Marilena Ferrari Foundation and commissioned by the Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
The gift was presented on 8 July in Coppito at the Financial Police barracks that hosted the summit works.
This work, which celebrates Canova as the first universal ambassador of Italian beauty, contains the gist of the two major Italian excellences: the immense artistic cultural heritage of our country and Italy’s centuries-old tradition of supreme craftsmanship.
The volume was made in only ten numbered specimens, on which the leading masters of Italian art and handicraft tradition worked jointly.
The work of art consists of a selection of texts on the artist, plates showing Canova’s temperas, 5 etchings and 77 photographs. It is also completed with a silk bookmark bearing the emblem of every single country and the exclusive ashwood and mahogany box finished by hand in gold leaf, completely covered with silk. The G8 symbol, the coat of arms of Italy and the coat of arms of the recipient country is on the box.
The Bevilacqua textile factory had the prestigious job of making the sumptuous book cover on which a marble bas-relief depicting a detail of Canova's work, "The Graces and Venus Dancing Before Mars", was set in a precious Bevilacqua fabric.
The fabric chosen for the cover is the Renaissance velvet with weft in gold threads, elegantly bound to the volume with binding done by hand.
This exclusive task given to Bevilacqua crowns the company as one of the representative excellences of the very best Made in Italy, witness of an extraordinary handcrafted quality since 1800 and of a production capacity unquestioned even today.
